The Pearl of Great Price Study Edition

The Pearl of Great Price: A Study Edition for Latter-day Saints

Edited by Stephen O. Smoot

Published by Scripture Central and The Interpreter Foundation

This carefully prepared study edition of the Pearl of Great Price blends scholarship, intuitive design, and spiritual insight to help readers engage more deeply with one of the foundational volumes of Latter-day Saint scripture. Originally published online in 2022, this revised and expanded second edition is now available in a reader-friendly print format.

Features of this study edition include:

  • Complete text of the 1902 Pearl of Great Price, closely aligned with the current 1981/2013 official edition of the Church
  • Faithfully reproduced facsimiles of the Book of Abraham, accompanied by explanatory commentary
  • Scholarly introductions to each of the five constituent books—Book of Moses, Book of Abraham, Joseph Smith—Matthew, Joseph Smith—History, and the Articles of Faith—covering historical origins, literary structure, and doctrinal significance
  • Extensive annotations providing insights into doctrine, history, language, and textual development
  • Notes on textual variants, including manuscript readings and editorial changes across different editions
  • Clean, accessible formatting, retaining official versification while introducing new paragraphing and updated punctuation for clarity
  • Appendices on the history and contents of the Pearl of Great Price, including notes on Elder Bruce R. McConkie’s proposed (but uncanonized) revised edition
  • Topical bibliographies directing readers to trusted resources for further study

Whether for personal study, gospel teaching, academic research, or devotional reflection, The Pearl of Great Price: A Study Edition for Latter-day Saints is an indispensable resource. It invites readers—students, teachers, and scholars alike—to experience the revelations of Joseph Smith and the scriptures of the Restoration with greater depth, clarity, and faith.
